After spending almost two weeks completing some ship’s projects at Amico Shipyard in Genoa, Italy, The Maltese Falcon set sail for Juan Les Pins, a small town adjacent to Antibes, France. During the 100 nautical mile trip, winds of up to 45 knots and choppy seas were encountered. Luckily, the Falcon is a stable and robust vessel capable of handling much rougher conditions so she still provided a comfortable ride.
A few days later, we moved to Antibes and anchored off the busy yachting town. The crew enjoyed spending some time here and many visited with friends working aboard other vessels.
This afternoon, the Falcon weighed anchor. Shortly after the departure, we spotted the 40-meter trimaran Banque Populaire V, which is the largest racing multihull in the world www.voile.banquepopulaire.fr/. Last year this vessel smashed the Transatlantic Record, crossing the ocean in under 3 days and 16 hours and making an average speed of over 32 knots! Although we must admit that the trimaran is capable of sailing at higher speeds than the Falcon, our accommodations are far more luxurious!
