Arrival in St Barths
After over 16 days at sea, we arrived in Gustavia, St Barths
on Friday, November 19th at about 1pm local time. The trip was
a huge success, as we never ran the engines except while leaving the dock in
Gibraltar and anchoring in St Barths. Our only fuel consumption was due
to the generators. The weather was also luxuriously calm, as we never saw
any sustained wind speeds above 24 knots and the seas were consistently flat.
Ironically, our passage through the Mediterranean from Genoa to Gibraltar was
much rougher than any part of the Atlantic crossing!
The first sight of land is always special after spending so
long looking at a blank horizon, so the crew (as well as Deutz, Dyna, and Otto)
admired the view as we approached the beautiful Caribbean islands. The
lush, green vegetation set over the perfect blue water was truly a great
welcome.
Once the anchor was down and tender launched, we had a quick
champagne toast to a good passage and wasted no time before jumping into the
warm water for a celebratory swim. We even broke out the Falcon’s
notorious giant rope swing for the occasion.
