Atlantic Crossing – Day 9
Hi Everyone,
My name is Dyna, and I am the Maltese Falcon’s
foremast. Anyway, I just heard that Deutz the diesel had the opportunity
to write a blog for the website, and, quite frankly, that really tangles my
halyards! After all, I have been the one efficiently pushing the yacht
across the Atlantic Ocean for the last nine days. Well, maybe I guess I
have been a “team” with the Main and Mizzen Mast pushing the yacht
along, but everybody knows that the Foremast is the best one.
That’s why they put ME on the front of the boat, duh!
Life out here in the middle of the ocean is still
great. We are now well past the halfway point in our journey, having
completed 1800nm with another 1400nm to go. Today has been one of the
best sailing days of the trip, as we have seen about 15-20kts of wind on the
beam. This is really my favorite angle to catch the wind, because
I’m able to push the yacht along at an average speed of 11.6 kts and even
heel it over a bit too. This morning I actually got a little too excited,
so Captain Chris furled my top sail, the Royal. I still have four other
sails available to play with, so I’m not complaining.
Now that we are further South, the water and air
temperatures have significantly increased and everybody has been spending more
time outside enjoying the weather. Sometimes they complain when my sails
shade the deck and block the sun, but that’s just the way it goes!
